As you prepare for your Diamond Challenge submission, you may be wondering why we require all participants to form teams. The Diamond Challenge rules, terms and conditions overview states: “Each Diamond Challenge submission and presentation represents an original work that has been created by a team of 2-4 high school students.” But what are the true benefits of working as a team instead of by yourself?

There are many advantages to working on a team, and if you want to learn more about these benefits, you’ve come to the right place.

  1. Combine strengths

Each person is unique in their ability to think and work. Some may be stronger in creativity and idea generation, while others may excel in organization and planning. Either way, working in teams allows you to build on each others’ talents and capabilities, making your Diamond Challenge entry more well-rounded and balanced. Furthermore, teammates can benefit from learning each other’s technical skills, simultaneously developing as individuals.

  1. Boost morale

Working with others motivates you to be more productive because others are counting on you to carry out tasks. On your own, you may be tempted to procrastinate and put things off till later. However, having teammates to support you helps keep everyone accountable and increases team spirit and impact.

  1. Teach skills for the workplace

Chances are, you’ll eventually have to work in a team later in life-whether it be at school, work, or during other social engagements. In many environments, even with just one teammate, disagreements are inevitably going to occur. For this reason, learning to work in teams is extremely beneficial because you can develop crucial skills such as the ability to compromise and resolve conflict.

  1. Elevate Intellectual stimulation

Brainstorming in groups can help stimulate new ideas and solutions that you may not have reached on your own. By verbalizing your thoughts and engaging in conversation, you may be able to see the situation more clearly and develop a new perspective.

  1. Release stress

Though working in teams can be challenging at times, it helps to delegate tasks. That way, everyone can maximize productivity and minimize stress. You don’t have to worry about doing the project all on your own-with the help of teammates, you can split up the workload and be more successful overall.

We hope that you can experience these benefits of teamwork throughout your Diamond Challenge participation. Always remember: teamwork makes the dream work!
