My junior year, my team had planned to pitch our business, Voluntu, live in front of Diamond Challenge Judges. But we got a little hiccup. It turned out, the site no longer hosted live pitches for the Social Venture track and we had to submit our pitch virtually and the deadline was in 8 hours! I scrambled to collect the team so we could film a pitch but no one was available. I ended up filming our submission of myself with a selfie stick. I took away two important skills from that experience: how to edit videos and pitch a business plan under pressure! When we qualified for the Semifinalist pitch, I was ecstatic. To see all the work we put in to perfect our pitch deck, written concept, and 5-minute speech come together and mean something was a pivotal moment in my entrepreneurship career. This significant experience in my life is all thanks to the opportunity Diamond Challenge gave me.

Since sixth grade, I have often heard of the wonders of starting and owning my own business, and of having freedom to be creative and acting to pursue my own passions. But how do I do it? What does it take to be an entrepreneur? Through Diamond Challenge, more students can be exposed to what entrepreneurship really is, rather than simply admiring those who are successful. That’s what I love about it. I was exposed to business and entrepreneurship quite late, towards the middle of my sophomore year. Discovering a passion so late, I had often believed there was nothing I was passionate about. But, I hope to use everything in my power, as an Ambassador, to help others find their passion for entrepreneurship earlier in life.
